Students who leave or are not permitted to progress in the diagnostic medical sonography course sequence due to the academic standards policy have the right to request re-entry into the program. This may or may not be granted based on the condition of dismissal and the student鈥檚 current academic record.
To request re-entry:
- The student completes a new application to the program along with a letter requesting re-entry into the program and the requested date of re-entry.
- The faculty meets to decide the student鈥檚 re-entry into the program. The clinical instructor(s), radiology administrator from the student鈥檚 previous clinical education site(s), and advisory committee may have input into the process. Factors considered before re-entry include the student鈥檚 cause for leaving or dismissal as well as possible future success in the program.
- The decision on re-entry will be sent to the student within two weeks of the decision.
- The re-entry date is up to the diagnostic medical sonography faculty.
- A student may or may not be re-entered into the same clinical education setting as before, depending on circumstances.
- A student who re-enters the program must meet all of the requirements of the program and the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography certification examination, which includes both academic and clinical competencies.
- The program has the right to deny a student re-entry into the program. A student who disagrees with the decision has the option of following the due process policy of the program.
- A student who does NOT wish to re-enter the program is encouraged to seek advising with student services at the Salem Campus for an alternate career pathway.
