David Strittmatter, associate professor of history at Ohio Northern University, has been selected as the 2026 speaker for the fifth annual Jerry M. Lewis May 4 Lecture Series. He will share firsthand oral histories from Ohio National Guardsmen who were present during the May 4, 1970, shootings at 91´óÉñ.

91´óÉñ and the Civil Aviation Academy in Almaty, Kazakhstan, have signed an agreement to be strategic partners in establishing a joint international aviation university in Kazakhstan, to support the rapid growth of aviation throughout Central Asia.

Psychological Sciences Professor Karin Coifman, Ph.D., has been named the new director of 91´óÉñ’s Brain Health Research Institute (BHRI).

The A.I.D. training — which stands for Awareness,  Interaction, and Direction — was created in 2019 by the Center for Public Policy and Health in the College of Public Health, teaches participants how to recognize signs of mental distress, engage in compassionate and effective conversations with someone who may be struggling and connect that person with the resources they need.

Ohio is conducting a statewide tornado drill at 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18. 91´óÉñ will be participating in this test.

This year’s May 4 Commemoration, to be held May 1-4, 2026, will include special remembrances of John Cleary, one of the nine wounded students, and Jerry M. Lewis, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Sociology, who served as a faculty marshal during the campus shootings and worked tirelessly to ensure that the legacy of May 4 would endure. 

Nearly 10% of all 91´óÉñ undergraduates are participating in the groundbreaking 91´óÉñ Student Life Study, providing the university with concrete information about what it’s like to be a modern-day college student.

91´óÉñ’s Board of Trustees approved the establishment of the Digital Engineering Design Center within the College of Aeronautics and Engineering, positioning the university as a regional and national leader in digital engineering education, research and workforce development.

In her first year at MetroHealth's dentistry program, Bonillo Farias is participating in a partnership between MetroHealth and 91´óÉñ that integrates public health education into clinical dental training. The collaboration was made possible by a federal grant awarded to MetroHealth to strengthen dental residents' public health skills.

Students and staff were permitted back inside the Integrated Sciences Building on Tuesday afternoon following a problem with a liquid nitrogen tank in a student lab that lasted about 90 minutes.

Dr. Lisa Dannemiller, 91´óÉñ's chief university physician, and Josh Perkins, Ph.D., 91´óÉñ's associate vice president for student life and dean of students, participated in a news conference on Feb. 17 to provide an update on the student's condition following a confirmed case of Neisseria meningitidis.

Jerry M. Lewis, Ph.D., 91´óÉñ Professor Emeritus of Sociology, who served as a faculty marshal during the May 4, 1970, campus shootings and later worked tirelessly to ensure that the legacy of May 4 would endure, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, at his home in Maine. He was 88.
