In the spirit of community, 91���� student volunteers picked up litter and trash around Kent neighborhoods following the annual Fake Paddy's Day celebration.

The Ohio Senate voted unanimously on March 25 to designate a stretch of Interstate 480 in Cuyahoga County as the Officer Jacob J. Derbin Memorial Highway, honoring the Euclid police officer who was killed in the line of duty in May 2024.

Journalism is not often perceived as an emotionally challenging career, but journalists can experience any number of traumatic stress symptoms from stories that they cover, especially those involving death or human suffering. These are the topics Gretchen Hoak, Ph.D., associate professor of journalism at 91����, explores in her new podcast “Informed Reporting,” which launched March 16.  

Networking, a gallery exhibit and a new director were all part of a celebratory event at 91����'s Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative on Feb. 24.

The A.I.D. training — which stands for Awareness,  Interaction, and Direction — was created in 2019 by the Center for Public Policy and Health in the College of Public Health, teaches participants how to recognize signs of mental distress, engage in compassionate and effective conversations with someone who may be struggling and connect that person with the resources they need.

91����’s Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative has received a $20,000 award from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) through the Grants for Arts Projects program. The funding will support wintertime temporary art installations and a public event on Cleveland’s Veterans Memorial Bridge as part of the NEA’s America250 initiative.

When Michael Bugary looks at his first published book, "The Disease of Me," he still feels a little surprised. “I was reading the final edit and thought, ‘Who wrote this?’” he said with a laugh.

A 91���� professor with more than three decades of experience in the justice system has been named the university's institutional winner for the Mid-American Conference Outstanding Faculty Award for Student Success.

In her first year at MetroHealth's dentistry program, Bonillo Farias is participating in a partnership between MetroHealth and 91���� that integrates public health education into clinical dental training. The collaboration was made possible by a federal grant awarded to MetroHealth to strengthen dental residents' public health skills.

In an era where social media connections replace face-to-face interactions and political divisions seem insurmountable, one 91���� professor has found an antidote: bringing college students and older adults together through simple, meaningful human connection.

Mwatabu Okantah, professor and chair of the Department of Africana Studies, was recently featured on WKYC-TV discussing how Black United Students helped turn Negro History Week into Black History Month in 1970, years before it became nationally recognized.  

On a November afternoon in Merrill Hall, six women walk into a 91���� classroom. They're not guest lecturers with advanced degrees. They're currently incarcerated at the Northeast Reintegration Center in downtown Cleveland. 

Poets and scientists from across the country – including current U.S. Poet Laureate Arthur Sze and other award-winning authors – will converge at 91���� in November for the first-ever Poets for Science Gathering.

Many students walk past the Pepsi Leadership Center without thinking twice about it, unaware that inside, Fridays are more than just a celebration of the end of the week; they're being redefined. No business attire. No speeches. Just music and meaningful conversations defining what leadership looks like on campus.
